Now based in the coastal town of Teignmouth, Devon, I also spent nearly twenty years living in London. The diversity of these environments is reflected in much of my artwork. It wasn't until I moved to Devon that I began exhibiting and selling my art.
Over the years I have produced artwork for my own enjoyment as well as for relatives and friends. Although I am largely self taught, I have completed art courses, facilitated art workshops and embarked upon a degree in the History of Art. A course at the Double Elephant Print Workshop in Exeter in 2009 was just what I needed to take my art down a fresh new path and ultimately produce work that I now regularly exhibit and sell.
I use drypoint, collagraph, monoprinting and linocut methods of printing. I also hand-tint some of my drypoint images with watercolours and use chine colle (tissue paper) to create block colours. Due to the nature of impression printing, these images have a beautiful textural quality.
Sometimes incorporating tissue to achieve block colour, I use a knife and/or a brush in my oil painting. I build up layers of colour and scratch or score into the paint.
